Summer in Perth (Part 2): Relax at Hillarys Boat Harbour

In Perth, it is nice to be near the ocean on the weekends with your friends and families. You may remember our recent post about Visiting Fremantle, a vibrant and hip coastal town, south of Perth.

This time we're headed North to Hillarys Boat Harbour. Approximately 21 km north-west from the Perth CBD, Hillarys is easily accessible from Mountway Holiday Apartments by jumping onto the Mitchell Freeway. Hillarys is easy enough to reach using public transport by catching the train and bus, with a number of buses going to Hillarys departing from Whitford, Greenwood and Warwick train stations.

One of the good things about Hillarys is the enclosed beach which is protected by the boat harbour which makes it suitable for swimmers of all ages and levels.

There is something for everyone at Hillarys. We enjoyed a nice lunch at award-winning restaurant, Ishka at the Breakwater which pays homage to the quality food and wine of Western Australia. Here you can enjoy fresh WA seafood, succulent venison, cheese and an extensive variety of wines from the Margaret River region.

For the more casual diners, there is an extensive variety of food including pizza, seafood, sushi, ice cream and plenty of cafes to enjoy a latte or two. There are also a few licensed establishments where you can enjoy a cold beer on a nice summer's day.

There are a number of boutiques and stores to do some weekend shopping. Clothing, swimwear, souvenirs, shoes and even art are available for purchase.

The little ones have the most exciting attractions of all with Leisurezone and The Great Escape providing a giant playground with water slides, trampolines, minigolf, video games and rides. In addition, curious ones can check out the sea creatures at AQWA which features an undersea-level aquarium you can walk through. Imagine walking and seeing a shark swimming right above you!
