Cool things to do this weekend

Published on Friday 13th November 2015

It's official. Summer is here, with a scorcher forecast for this weekend. We are treated to a hot 38 degrees on Saturday and a warm 29 degrees on  Sunday. As tempting as it is to stay inside and keep cool under the air conditioning (all of the rooms at Mountway Holiday Apartments have reverse cycle air conditioning systems), Perth has plenty to offer while the weather is hot. Here are some cool (and free) things to look out for/do this weekend:

Turning on the Christmas lights: you may have noticed Christmas decorations going up around town. Tonight at 6:30 PM, over 100,000 Christmas lights will be switched on to mark the start of Perth’s Christmas events from November up until Christmas. The Right Honourable Lord Mayor of Perth Lisa Scaffidi will be joined by Santa himself and the North Pole Christmas Crew. Guaranteed to be a fun night for the kids and family, the Christmas lights will be happening at Forrest Place, which is only a 15-minute walk from Mountway Holiday Apartments.

More information will be posted on Perth’s Christmas festivities on this blog next week so watch this space!

Visit our beaches: being located in the city, guests at Mountway have ample access to most of our popular beaches, simply by catching a train down to Mandurah, or catching buses to City Beach, Scarborough and more. We recommend hitting the beach early in the morning to avoid the midday UV rays and higher tides.

For more information on our local beaches and how to get there, feel free to ask any of our friendly staff on reception.

Beaufort street festival: is an annual event, which turns Beaufort street into a vibrant festival offering the best local entertainment and performances and market stalls. The festival kicks off at midday and will run until 9pm. The festival is located in the heart of Mount Lawley and is easily accessible by a 5-minute bus ride from the CBD.

Fremantle Markets and Wildflower display: take the Fremantle train to our famous port-city Fremantle and enjoy the Fremantle Markets. This month the markets are graced with beautiful locally grown Everlastings wildflowers, which make for a vibrant display. Enjoy some culinary delights such as the famous Paella, fresh honeycomb and cupcakes, with numerous craft items and wares on offer to purchase.

We hope that you can find enjoyment in any of these cool events happening in Perth this weekend! Are there any other events we have missed that you would like t share? Feel free to share with us in the comments below, or via our Facebook page!
